Conversations and moderation
The Conversations tab shows every conversation in your workspace (your tenant), whether or not you are a member of it. Use it to moderate: delete a conversation that should not exist, or remove someone from one.
Who can do this
Section titled “Who can do this”Listing needs
administration.readadministration.manage, and Chat re-checks your access at the Identity Server before it acts.
Where it is in the UI
Section titled “Where it is in the UI”Administration, then Conversations. The table shows these columns.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name | The conversation’s name, or a dash when it has none |
| Type | DIRECT, GROUP or CHANNEL |
| Application | The application the conversation lives in |
| Last activity | When the last message was sent |
Select Load more below the table for the next page. A Delete button appears at the end of each row if you hold administration.manage.
The Chat API can also narrow the list to one application or one type. See list conversations as an administrator.
Delete a conversation
Section titled “Delete a conversation”- Select Delete on the row.
- Confirm the question
Delete "name" for everyone?.
The conversation disappears from the list. For its members it disappears from their conversation list, and anyone who has it open is taken back to the main Chat screen with the message “You no longer have access to that conversation.”
Remove a member from a conversation
Section titled “Remove a member from a conversation”The Conversations tab has no button for this. Do it through the Chat API, for example from your own admin tooling, with remove a member. The person loses access at once: the conversation drops out of their list, and if they have it open they are taken back to the main Chat screen with the message “You no longer have access to that conversation.”
Delete a single message
Section titled “Delete a single message”Administration does not list messages. A person whose role holds messages.delete can delete other people’s messages inside a conversation. The message stays as a deleted placeholder, and Chat records the deletion.
What gets audited
Section titled “What gets audited”| Action | Audit entry |
|---|---|
| Delete a conversation | CONVERSATION_DELETED, with the conversation’s type |
| Remove a member | MEMBER_REMOVED, with the reason REMOVED |
| Delete someone else’s message | MESSAGE_DELETED_BY_MODERATOR |
See the audit log.
Related Identity Server task
Section titled “Related Identity Server task”Moderation is entirely inside Chat. To stop a person from using Chat at all, remove their role or their access to the application in the Identity Server: see the Identity Server documentation.
For developers
Section titled “For developers”The same action is available through the API: Delete a conversation (moderation). These operations need a user token; a machine client never gets administration permissions.
