Settings
The Settings tab holds the one Chat setting you can change for your workspace: message retention.
Who can do this
Section titled “Who can do this”Anyone with
administration.readadministration.manage; without it the field is disabled and there is no Save button.
Where it is in the UI
Section titled “Where it is in the UI”Administration, then Settings. The tab has one field: Message retention (days, empty = forever).
- Leave it empty to keep messages forever. This is the starting value.
- Enter a whole number of days, 1 or more, to set a retention period.
Change the retention period
Section titled “Change the retention period”-
Open Administration and select Settings.
-
Enter the number of days, or clear the field.
-
Select Save. Chat confirms with “Settings saved.”
A value that is not a whole number of days is rejected with “Retention must be a whole number of days, or empty to keep messages forever.”
What gets audited
Section titled “What gets audited”Every save records SETTINGS_UPDATED in the audit log, with the value before and after. Chat re-checks your access at the Identity Server before it saves.
Related Identity Server task
Section titled “Related Identity Server task”None. Retention is a Chat setting, not an Identity Server one. To see who may change it, check which roles hold administration.manage in Roles and permissions.
For developers
Section titled “For developers”The same action is available through the API: Read settings, Update settings. These operations need a user token; a machine client never gets administration permissions.
